You know your children love to be outside the whole time they are camping. They will put plenty of miles on those little feet every day you are here. But all that movement burns energy and they need to be consuming more fluids to keep up. It can be a challenge to lasso them long enough to get them to drink water. Fortunately, we have some ideas for keeping your kids hydrated that you can try on your next RV camping trip.
1/ Popsicles
Your kids love popsicles and, since they are mostly water, they’re a great way to keep your kids hydrated in warm weather. You can make your own with just about anything you’d like. Try apple or orange juice, powdered drink mixes, or blend up fresh fruit with almond milk.
There are plenty of ways to make old favorites or try new twists on the tried-and-true. You can find some ideas from Real Simple’s article, 10 Homemade Popsicle Recipes.
2/ Fresh Fruit and Veggies
Visit our local San Marcos Farmers’ Market to pick up fruits and vegetables that are in season, and you’ll have a nice variety of flavors to offer your kids. Cut fresh foods up into grab-and-go sizes, and keep them handy for little hands to take with them as they dash through on their way to the next adventure.
You can add a surprising amount of hydration into those little bodies by simply getting them to munch on some of our incredible locally-grown peaches, plums, nectarines, and of course, ruby red grapefruit.
Try having some cut up cucumbers, celery sticks, broccoli, and cauliflower, too. Your small family members will be hungry from all that running and may surprise you with how often they come back to graze.
3/ Yogurt and Apple Sauce
Yogurt and apple sauce are quite high in water content and kids love them both. They can be purchased in individual containers or larger portions for whatever way you prefer to serve your family. Add a portion or two of these each day, and your kids will be getting water in their diet without even realizing it.
Another option is to make parfaits with the yogurt by layering it with fresh or frozen fruit. Your kids will get even more hydration and will love the “fancy” feel of eating this way.
We hope you and your little ones have the time of your life while you’re here at Pecan Park Riverside RV Park. We look forward to seeing you come back again many times in the coming years, as your children make memories that will last a lifetime.
